Parents controlling the car!
Well for this blog post I'm going to take a detour away from politics and talk about something really interesting that caught my attention on yahoo news. According to Yahoo news, Ford Motor Company is coming out with a new type of parental controls for teen drivers, who drive the newest 2010 models. The car key will have a chip in it to were teens can't go over 80 miles an hour and also limit the audio volume to help with distraction. This new feature will be called "MyKey". This will also spread to the Lincoln and Mercy line of cars that Ford makes. Another "so-called" perk is this will help against car theft. The car won't turn if it doesn't recognize the chip. So if your a teen like me would you want parents to have this much control over how you drive? For parents would you like to have this much control over your kids driving? Would you buy this type of car for your kid?

i would definetly not invest in a car like this if your parents don't trust you driving then you shouldn't drive at all. Not that going under 80 and not having loud music is a problem for me. But i do think that by the time you reach driving age that u should be mature enough to be responsible.
I don't really think that I would buy this kind of vehicle. I'm all for safe driving, but I'm not sure that this is the right route to go. It's a good idea that might even help, but this will also probably bring up a barrier between parents and their child. A lot of teenagers want to be respected and they would probably feel like this was an invasion of their personal freedom.
I have to agree. While it is a good idea for safety reasons, the teenagers most likely wouldn't be too happy with it and feel like their parents were invading their personal space.
Umm...I know some adults that might need these features. lol
Yeah i agree I wouldn't buy a car like that either. My parents baught me a car for my graduation and they are wandering how it is and asking if i wrecked it yet or done any damage to it. When I tell them that it is in good shape they want me to send them a picture just so they can see it to make sure that I am telling the truth about it. A 2010 car would be to much for me to handle exspecially the way they acting now about my car.
I totally agree with Jo!! :)
I totally agree with Jo!! :)
Wow. Interesting device. No, I would not buy a car like that. If they are already making things like that so that parents have that much control over a child that they should be able to trust enough to drive carefully, then just think about how the government could use that to their advantage eventually. Sorry, I probably sound like a kook, but think about it...
Honestly, I would not like that, since I love to race and blare my muusic. However, I think it would be SAFER to have the going over 80feature. I think the music part of it is dumb though and they shouldn't do that. lol.
